Bill Healy grew up in Orland Park, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. He attended St. Ignatius College Prep and graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in sociology.
Upon graduation, Bill moved to Chicago where he taught a self-contained fifth grade classroom in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood as a member of the Inner-City Teaching Corps. While he was teaching, Bill earned a Master’s degree in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University.
Bill later helped coordinate the work-study program at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago before returning to Northwestern for a Master’s in Journalism. Since graduating from the journalism program in 2009, Bill has interned with and freelanced for WBEZ-Chicago Public Media.
In 2011, Bill won a Local Reporting Award from the Chicago Community Trust to do reporting on the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.
He currently lives on the Southwest Side of Chicago, in the Beverly neighborhood.
